Solar modules are installed in the roof of the trailers and because they are charging traction batteries of the trucks, these trucks are changing batteries less frequently in charging stations. Solar truck consumes approximately 10% less network energy and simultaneously it is achieving longer time periods in service between charging cycles. Storage batteries are mainly charging from the solar modules at the weekend. In Mladá Boleslav plant these battery fueled trucks are driving almost 70 kilometres every day.
Charging is monitored by the sensors and the charging proces is recorded. For each day of service is possible to find out how long the charging cycle lasted, how much energy came from the network and how much contributed solar modules energy to the truck power.
