Packaging management

Benefits
  • Saving on plastics
  • Recovery of recyclates
  • Recyclability of packaging

It has long been important for Škoda Auto pallet developers to find ways to reduce their environmental footprint. One of the first steps was an agreement with pallet suppliers to use at least 25 percent recycled material in the production of new pallets.

This step allows more and more recycled materials to be used without compromising pallet quality. Plastic pallets (EPP) with 25 percent recycled material have the same technical characteristics as pallets made without adding recycled material.

The next step is to test closed pallets, which are additionally packed in plastic packaging or stretch film. These closed pallets are more expensive to start with, but in the long run they are more environmentally friendly and more cost-effective.

The aim of the department “Development and planning of Škoda Auto packaging” is to find a way to optimize packaging in terms of transport and at the same time replace disposable plastic inter-layers with more ecological materials. The long-term goal of cooperation with colleagues from the group is to use only one type of material in one packaging, which would help in subsequent recycling.

We are aware that this is only the beginning of the journey. We would like to complete it and set an example for others in our industry. We are ready to show that quality and sustainable products can be produced while taking care of the environment.
